When I first found out about Rare Beauty Makeup in 2020 I was super excited! Growing up I had always been a huge Selena Gomez fan. I loved watching Wizards of Waverly Place and I had all her albums from Selena Gomez & The Scene. In this blog post, I will be sharing with you the products I own and what I think about them. Rare Beauty is one of my favorite brands! Being a Selena Gomez fan is definitely a reason but I have many more! Keep reading to find out. 😊
Reasons I love the brand!

- More than just a company: The brand has a strong focus on mental health which is something I appreciate and they also donate 1% of their sales to mental health.
- Rare Beauty Chats!: The Rare Beauty team invites selected Rare Beauty fans for Rare chats. I got to attend a Rare Chat on December 17th, 2020. I messaged them on Twitter if I could join their Rare Chat and they sent me an invite so I was very lucky! The theme of the chat was New Years’ goals & reflections. It was so cool to meet people who work for the company and other Rare Beauty fans. We got to talk about what change we hope to see in the world for the new year.
- Positivity! Rare Beauty’s messaging is centered on being proud to be yourself and having makeup that you can feel good in. Typically in the beauty industry, there’s a lot of focus on “fixing” the way you look. So I think it’s nice that Rare Beauty has a different approach to beauty. The shade names are also well thought out like “empathy” and “compliment”. Rare Beauty does these things called Rare Reminders so you can write a positive note to yourself. My Rare Reminder got featured on their Instagram!
- Suitable for everyday wear: I feel like most of the products can be worn for everyday wear with the exception of some eyeshadow colors maybe. You don’t have to save it for a special occasion which is nice so you can play with the products often.
Who Sells Rare Beauty?
In the U.S you can buy Rare Beauty at Sephora or their website. It’s also available at Kohl’s Sephora and SpaceNK.
If you live in Canada then you can buy Rare Beauty through their website but they do not take returns. Also, some of their products do not ship to Canada.
If you live in the U.K then you can buy their products through Space NK.
How much is Rare Beauty Shipping?
Since I always buy Rare Beauty through Sephora I always get free shipping. On their website, it says you get free shipping on orders of $50+. I tried adding blush to my cart to see how much the shipping was to my house and it said it was $6.
Is Rare Beauty cruelty-free?
Yes! Rare Beauty is cruelty-free and certified by PETA’s Global Beauty Without Bunnies.
Is Rare Beauty clean?
Surprisingly their products are not clean at Sephora but they are vegan. They also say on their website that they choose not to advertise themselves as clean because the term “clean” is unregulated. I thought this was interesting because it does feel like all brands are pushing toward clean but I do agree that the term “clean” is unregulated and seems to be more of a marketing term. I’m not an expert at ingredients in makeup so if you are concerned about them then I would take a deep dive into the ingredient list. All of their products are paraben free and their Blot & Glow Makeup Touch-up Kit is talc-free.
Is Rare Beauty Expensive?
In my opinion, Rare Beauty is not expensive compared to other brands sold at Sephora. Everything is under $30 which is a decent price range for me. I try to shop for Rare Beauty products whenever there’s a sale going on at Sephora. You can always try to save money by buying the gift sets or shopping when there’s a sale.
RARE FACE PRODUCTS
Rare Beauty Foundation

The Rare Beauty Foundation was the first product I bought from them. Overall I like this product and use it often. It’s pretty lightweight and looks good on the skin. Since I bought this online so I guessed my shade and got 270N. Lucky for me the color did end up matching my skin tone.
How to apply Rare Beauty Foundation?
The foundation is customizable in terms of coverage. You can apply one dot on your nose and use a brush to disperse it all over the face. I typically like to apply a streak of product on my cheek and a little on my nose. Just add more products if you want more coverage. A makeup brush is my favorite way to apply the product so that’s what I use to apply this.
Rare Beauty Concealer

One of the best parts of this concealer is the tip. It’s angled and it gets slightly smaller towards the bottom so it’s easy to reach for the inner corner of your eye. I bought this product one shade lighter than my foundation in shade 260N.
Rare Beauty Primer

This is the Always an Optimist Illuminating Gel Face Primer. It’s a nice primer that is lightweight and goes onto the skin nicely. While it’s a good base product I haven’t noticed anything illuminating about it.
Rare Beauty Bronzer

There’s something satisfying about this bronzer that can’t be explained unless you use it. It glides on real smooth and the color looks natural on my skin tone. This is the shade Happy Sol.
Rare Beauty Blush

When I first saw people using this Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Liquid Blush I freaked out because nearly everyone who used it looked like a clown! This blush is VERY pigmented which is why everyone who used it looked like a clown. The secret to using this product is using a small amount. A small amount looks amazing although you can still use more if you like a lot of blush It’s best to use one dot on each cheek and also wipe off the excess before you dot it on your cheek. Another tip from the Rare Beauty makeup artist is to apply blush to your inner wrist and rub it between both wrists. Then use your wrists to apply this product to your face. Your hands should be facing outwards and this helps you naturally apply your blush in the right spots.

I got a sample version of the shade Grace with my Sephora Insider Points. Grace is supposed to be a bright rose mauve color and it looks a bit purple in pictures but it doesn’t look purple on me. I ended up liking this color and I would consider repurchasing this shade. But I also plan on stocking up on other shades. I did end up purchasing the shade Happy later on! (as seen above) This is a fun bright pink shade.
Rare Beauty Highlighter

I bought this highlighter at JCPenney Sephora when they were closing down because this was on sale. This shade wouldn’t have been my first choice but it was the only one available at the shop and it was on sale so I decided to give it a shot. Lucky for me I did not regret my decision. This positive liquid luminizer in Captivate is a copper color. I was skeptical of how it would look on my skin tone but it looked fine. This highlighter is very pigmented just like the blush so it’s important to blend ASAP after putting it on and to not use a lot of product.
Rare Beauty Blot & Glow Touch-Up Kit

This blot and glow touch-up kit was the one thing from Rare Beauty I regret purchasing. I honestly just bought it because it was on sale and it looked cute. I don’t have oily skin so I never really use blotting paper. The pre-filled powder puff doesn’t feel pre-filled it just seems like an ordinary powder puff. I honestly feel like it does nothing. Maybe I would have liked this product if I had oily skin but this product was pointless to me.
Rare Beauty Tinted Moisturizer

I don’t normally like tinted moisturizers because I feel like they do nothing. But this Rare Beauty Tinted Moisturizer is one I actually like! It has a decent amount of pigment without looking or feeling like makeup. I bought this during the Sephora Sale and the shade 32N was out of stock so I bought 30N. 30N ended up being a little too yellow for me because it’s for golden undertones but it doesn’t look bad. But next time I will probably get a different shade.
The product has SPF 20 which is nice but it doesn’t have enough sun protection so I always wear sunscreen underneath. (You should be wearing sunscreen under your makeup anyways!) Since it contains SPF it has a sunscreen smell to it but this hasn’t bothered me while I’m wearing it. It’s only noticeable when I dispense the product from the squeeze tube. I use two to three squeezes of the tinted moisturizer and I find that it’s best applied with fingers. Then once I’m done applying with my fingers I will use a brush or sponge to give it a final blend.
Definitely obsessed with this product because it feels so lightweight and it’s perfect for summer. I wore this to the beach and it looked amazing!

If you have any dark spots you will need to use a concealer as this will not provide enough coverage. But this tinted moisturizer is the secret to nailing the “clean girl” look or “no-makeup-makeup look”.
A good dupe for this Rare Beauty Tinted moisturizer. would be the FENTY EAZE DROP BLURRING SKIN TINT. This one is $3 more and 2ml bigger. I tried a small sample of this I got before I tried Rare Beauty and had a good experience with this. However, since I only used it once it’s hard for me to compare the two but they’re both great products.
Rare Beauty Always An Optimist 4-In-1 Mist

This isn’t a traditional setting spray this is a 4 in 1 mist that is meant to hydrate, prime, set and refresh. I bought the mini size of this product. I tried using this is a regular setting spray to spritz my brushes and it just didn’t work the same. The product is a bit more of a watery spray so I think it’s best to use this to refresh and hydrate your skin. This product would be especially helpful for people with dry skin.
RARE BEAUTY LIP PRODUCTS
Rare Beauty Lipstick

I have the shade Fearless in the Rare Beauty Lip Souffle Matte Cream Lipstick. The lipstick I own is a mini that I got from a Sephora order. The color is buildable so you can sheer it down or bring it on! I was worried that the color would be too dark but if you sheer it down it’s not too dark. The product felt really nice as soon as I put it on my lips which was a surprise because generally, lip colors tend to be thick. It’s not drying like regular liquid lipsticks which is something I like about it. Overall, I have no complaints, but I recommend using a little setting powder so it won’t come off easily.
Rare Beauty Glossy Lip Balm

Here’s the Rare Beauty Stay Vulnerable Glossy Lip Balm in the shade Nearly Apricot. I’m not sure why it’s considered a lip balm I would just call this lip gloss. The color is pretty sheer and it doesn’t feel heavy on the lips. When you put it on there’s a slight shine with a tint of color. It’s not sticky so I recommend this for no-makeup looks.
Rare Beauty Lip Balm
In my collection, I have two of the Rare Beauty With Gratitude Dewy Lip Balms. I have the shade Praise and a mini version of Thankful. The full-size version has a magnetic closure which is kinda cool. This is a tinted lip balm and I generally don’t like using tinted lip balm but I actually do like this. The main reason I like this is that the colors are good. It’s not too over the top and it’s not too subtle. I have found that the color is also pretty buildable. Praise is a pretty muted peach color that also looks a bit pink. And thankful is a nude mauve. This won’t replace your everyday lip balm as it’s more like lipstick.

Swatches of the Lip Products

RARE BEAUTY EYE PRODUCTS
Rare Beauty Liquid Eyeliner

This liquid eyeliner from Rare was one of the first products I wanted to buy but I held back from buying it for a while because I had so many eyeliners to finish. I’m so glad I bought it because this eyeliner is so bold and it’s comfortable to use. It’s the only eyeliner that they have so far.
Rare Beauty Mascara

This volumizing mascara is pretty versatile. You can create a natural low-key look with it or you can layer it on for a dramatic effect. Something interesting I found out through their website is that there are four types of lashes. I have full/thick lashes so there are some tips recommended on how to apply their mascara which I will have to check out. I got this mini through my Sephora insider points.
Rare Beauty Liquid Eyeshadow

I wasn’t a fan of the color combinations in their eyeshadow palette so I decided to give their liquid eyeshadow a try. Typically I feel like most liquid eyeshadows tend to be a glittery color but this eyeshadow is very neutral. Since it is a neutral color it’s perfect for everyday wear. I have the shade Nearly Apricot and it’s a light peachy color. I usually just blend it in with my fingers. This eyeshadow is perfect for travel because you don’t need to carry a big palette or any brushes. I took this eyeshadow with me when I went to New York and it made my makeup so easy on the go. Also if you get watery eyes this might be better since it’s lightweight and you won’t experience fallout, unlike the typical powder eyeshadow.
Rare Beauty Makeup Bag

Rare Beauty gifted me this bag because I signed up for their casting calls when the brand first launched. This bag is not available at Sephora and is an online-only exclusive to the Rare Beauty website.

Fun fact! I actually use this in my college backpack as a purse/pouch. Inside it, you will find some medicines, candy, Nivea, a snack bar, tissues, and a pad. It’s been helpful in keeping my backpack organized. I haven’t traveled anywhere yet so I never needed a makeup bag as of now. Hopefully, I will be able to actually use this for makeup one day. This bag is super cute and can store a lot of stuff in it. However, it comes in a light color so you have to be careful. If you got stains on this then it probably would not come off well. But overall it’s a good bag and I like how it’s flat and you can fit a good amount of items.
Full Face Look
Here’s a full face makeup look I did for my birthday using a lot of the products I featured in this blog post. It also gives you an idea of how simple and pretty the products look.
Overall thoughts
I love Rare Beauty makeup and I do plan on buying more from them down the road. Some of the Rare Beauty makeup products on my wishlist are more blush shades and their new lipsticks. With so many celebrity beauty brands coming out I appreciate how Rare Beauty is trying to be different and bring something new to this space.
